Since moving to Portland, I have worked with new and experienced players from 18 months to adult. I have coached outdoor soccer since 2012 through Portland Parks & Rec and North Portland Soccer Club, and I have been a part of the RCF Soccer Stars, Youth Academy, and Adult Clinic programs since 2016. I grew up around baseball and football and eventually ran track and cross country in school, so I came to play, coach, and enjoy soccer much later in life, but I’m glad I have! It would have been difficult not to in Portland, with so much culture and opportunity to participate in the sport, and the futsal classes and league play at RCF are a great way to get involved, develop skill, and grow as a player and now as a coach.

Fav Futsal/Soccer Memory:
Using what can best be described as “the force” to slot a game-winning goal through traffic with 30 seconds to play. At halftime I consciously said to myself, “it looks like you might have to win this game,” and I told myself to be ready. When the moment arrived, I knew it, and I was.

Why RCF?:
The width and breadth of classes, league play, and developmental opportunities, from entry-level to competitive, young children to adult, make RCF a great place to learn and grow in the sport, for players, families, and coaches!

Fav Futsal/Soccer Memory:
I’ve played in numerous tournaments and earned a lot of medals/trophies but my favorite soccer memory is a simple one. When I was in college, I would go to the rec center after class and play pickup soccer for hours on end. I met a bunch of people, even my would-be husband, and all of us “regulars” became really good friends. One chilly winter day it was snowing but we all showed up at night to play under the lights. We were freezing. We couldn’t feel our fingers or toes, our cleats were soaked, icy air entered our lungs, were falling down on the slippery turf… and yet we had SO much fun. We laughed until our sides hurt and played until we nearly got frostbite. The greatest thing was that nobody forced us to be there. We all willingly showed up because we truly loved to play and I will never forget the pure joy that night brought all of us.

Why RCF?:
I love that anybody, at any age or skill level, can feel welcome at RCF. When I first moved to Oregon and didn’t know anybody, I was able to sign up for a team as an individual and start making new friends right away. What I love about my RCF coworkers is that everyone is very talented and has a genuine love of the game. It’s this energy and passion that makes us the best coaches around!

I have been playing soccer since I was 4 years old and on the Orange Pandas. Fast forward to college and I was once again wearing orange and black playing collegiate soccer for Lewis & Clark College. In between that time, I coached U12 Girls for three seasons when I was 16 while also playing club and high school ball. After I graduated from LC, I assistant coached the women’s college team while finding multiple outdoor, indoor, and futsal teams to play on in Portland. I currently play on soccer and futsal teams as well as train players individually.

Fav Futsal/Soccer Memory:

I love the camaraderie between players, refs, and teams at RCF.
